RETRAIN THE BRAIN
  1. Just because you have decided to quit today, does not mean that the rest of your body understands that.
  2. For years you have smoked and taught every fiber in your being that you smoke.
  3. Picture your mind like a circular room full of file cabinets. The cabinets have drawers top to bottom and every drawer is full of files front to back.
  4. On each file is a code that says “I smoke” and each time you do something that you associate with smoking such as drink a cup of coffee, the memory drawer for drinking a cup of coffee is going to open up and the code is going to say to you: “Hey where’s my cigarette?”.
  5. In order to stop the constant psychological requests for a cigarette you must re-train the brain.
  6. Each time a request enters your mind, you must repeat to yourself “I Quit, I gave it up, I have no desire”.
  7. If you repeat this each time you have a thought about smoking, and continue to do so for a period of 21 days, you will have successfully created a conditioned response that will eliminate that thought process and erase that code of all of the memory files relating to smoking in your mind.
  8. This is the difference between a person who says “I quit 20 years ago, and I still want one today” and a person who says “I quit 3 months ago and I don’t even think about it anymore, I have no desire whatsoever”.
